Homemade Vanilla Syrup:
Ingredients :
- 400 ml of water
- 250 g brown sugar / white sugar
- 1 Madagascar vanilla pod
Preparation :
-
In a medium saucepan, combine water and brown sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly to dissolve the sugar.
-
While the mixture is heating, split the vanilla bean in half lengthwise with a sharp knife. Using the back of the knife, gently scrape out the vanilla seeds and add them to the saucepan. Do not discard the hollowed-out bean.
-
Once the mixture begins to boil, reduce the heat and add the hollowed-out vanilla bean. Simmer for about 15 minutes, until the mixture reduces slightly and becomes a syrupy consistency.
-
Remove from heat and let cool. Once cool, remove the vanilla bean. You can rinse and dry it to use in another recipe or to make vanilla sugar.
-
Pour the syrup into a clean, airtight bottle. Store in the refrigerator.
Gourmet Tip:
- For a richer syrup, you can slightly increase the amount of sugar.
- This vanilla syrup can be used to flavor coffee, cocktails, hot drinks, yogurts, fresh fruit, or even to top pancakes and waffles.
- For a creative touch, add a used vanilla bean to the syrup bottle to strengthen its aroma over time.
This simple yet delicious syrup is an easy way to add a touch of gourmet luxury to many dishes and drinks. Enjoy!
